LAP OPEN LETTER to the PRIME MINISTER GORDON BROWN
Dear Gordon Brown
On the occasion of your appointment as Prime Minister, Labour Action for Peace makes the following requests:
1. Withdraw all British troops immediately from Iraq and Afghanistan. Delay will only cost more lives. In most places we have become part of the problem and cannot be part of the solution.
2.Tell the United States that we will refuse to allow them to use British bases for missile interceptions or related intelligence. Appeal to the Czechs and Poles to do likewise. We must avoid an arms race in space.
3. Rescind the decision to develop a new nuclear weapons system. "British"- never independent - weapons tie us with US foreign policies, when these policies are increasingly questioned in Britain and the United States. They diminish our security and chance nuclear proliferation. Critics like Kofi Annan and Hans Blix believe that they are destabilising peace.
Yours in peace and socialism, Labour Action for Peace
